Sorry for the short notice, but . . .
PenderWatch volunteers will build oyster reefs on Saturday, September 24 on a severely eroding island at the mouth of Mill Creek and the Intracoastal Waterway in Hampstead. We have to build the reefs near low tide and low tide on September 24 will be at about 1:00. We plan to start working on the reefs at 11:00 AM and to finish by 3:00 PM at the latest.
Volunteers should meet at 11:00 Saturday morning, September 24, at 2176 Washington Acres Road, Hampstead; walk around the house to the back yard. We will provide boat transportation from the dock behind that house to the island just across Mill Creek where we will be building the reefs. Volunteers should wear old clothes (we advise bathing suits or other drip dry clothes) and water shoes or boots that will stay on their feet when they get wet; flip flops, Crocs and bare feet are not safe. The sand on the island is very soft at low tide and tends to suck loose shoes off feet. On Saturday, we will be working in the water a lot, so tight shoes will be even more important than usual.
Contact person on Saturday for questions or problems is Allie Sheffield, cell # 910-382-4677.
We will provide snacks, cold beverages and a hearty lunch for volunteers. We had a fantastic time in June and urge all of you to join us for the fun on the 24th.

(In case of stormy weather, the rain date will be October 8 between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. If we have to cancel on September 24, we will post a cancellation prominently on our website (www.penderwatch.org) and will also notify everyone by email as early as possible.
